Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activities of organotin(IV) complexes with ethylthioglycolate

Abstract

A series of organotin(IV) complexes have been synthesized by reacting ethylthioglycolate with di- and triorganotin halides in 1:1 M/L ratio in methanol under stirring conditions. The newly synthesized complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C). IR results shows that ligand act as monodentate which is also confirmed by semiempirical study. NMR data reveals four coordinated geometry in solution. Biological activities data demonstrates that complexes show significant activity against various bacterial and fungal strains with few exceptions and are found cidal in their biological action.
